Recently as I was blogging about Hello Kitty desserts at Swensen’s Singapore, I suddenly remembered that I have this bucket list of Hello Kitty themed places in Japan that I’ve been wanting to visit. So here I am to share them with you:
Japan Vacation Ideas for Hello Kitty Fans!
If there are any fellow Hello Kitty fans out there planning a trip to Japan, do check them out (then come back and tell us if they are worth visiting!).
1) Sanrio Puroland (near Tokyo)
This is the most famous Hello Kitty attraction in Japan, due to its proximity to Tokyo.
Here, you can visit Hello Kitty’s home, take a photo with Hello Kitty, take a spin on Sanrio-themed automated rides and watch Hello Kitty parades!
Travel Tip: Download discount coupons from Sanrio Puroland’s Japanese website to save on admission fees!
Getting There: Sanrio Puroland is a 5 minute’s walk from Tama-Center station on the Keio and Odakyu Lines. To find the fastest train route from the metro station nearest to you in Tokyo, use hyperdia and key in ‘Tama-Center’ as the destination. (See details)

2) Harmonyland (Kyushu)
The next biggest Hello Kitty attraction in Japan but less famous than Sanrio Puroland because of its location at the Western end of Japan in far-flung Kyushu island, this is one place I’ve been really wanting to visit but I just haven’t made it to this part of Japan yet.
From the pictures, Harmony Land actually looks a lot more interesting than Sanrio Puroland, though somewhat dated. The main difference, I believe, is that Sanrio Puroland is indoors but Harmonyland is outdoors. And being outdoors translates to bigger rides!
Other than outdoor attractions, there is also an indoor playground.
Travel Tip: Check their Japanese website for ongoing campaigns (on the main page, under the left column) that may save you on admission fees!
Getting There: Harmonyland is not located near any train station and the best way to access it is by rental car. Alternatively, take the JR Nipou Main Line to Kitsuki station or Hiji station and take a taxi (10 minutes ride) from there. (See details)
3) Shima Grand Hotel (Gunma Prefecture)
What took the Japanese so long to come up with a Hello Kitty onsen? Recently opened on 9 Jan 2015, the Shima Grand Hotel in Gunma Prefecture (about 2 hour train ride from Central Tokyo) now houses a Hello Kitty onsen!
Hello Kitty herself visited the onsen! LOL!
Over there, you will also find Cafe Floresta serving Hello Kitty food.
Travel Tip: Book an accomodation plan that includes the use of the Hello Kitty onsen and voucher for Cafe Floresta from Rakuten Travel.
Getting There: Shima Grand Hotel is located at Shima Onsen. It is not located near any train station and the best way to access is by rental car. The nearest train station is Nakanojo, from which it is a 40 minutes bus ride to Shima Onsen. (See details)

4) Seibuen Amusement Park (Tokyo)
About an hour’s train ride from Central Tokyo is Seibuen Amusement Park. At this amusement park, you will find Melhen Town, an outdoor Sanrio-themed attraction.
On top of Hello Kitty rides, you can also munch on Hello Kitty bento!
Not forgetting shopping for Hello Kitty collectibles at the souvenir shop.
In summer (Early July – Mid September), there is even a Hello Kitty Water Park!
Getting There: Seibuen Amusement Park is located at Yuenchi-Nishi station on the Seibu Yamaguchi Line. Use the West Exit (西口) when you arrive at Yuenchi-Nishi station. To find the fastest train route from the metro station nearest to you in Tokyo, use hyperdia and key in ‘Yuenchi-Nishi’ as the destination. (See details)

5) Keio Plaza Hotels
Keio Plaza Hotel (Tokyo)
Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo, located right smack in Shinjuku in Central Tokyo, has Hello Kitty Rooms for the die-hard Hello Kitty fans! So if you are in Tokyo, why not spend a night at one of their oh-so-cute Hello Kitty rooms?
Travel Tip: Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo is one of the “Tokyo Disney Resort Good Neighbor Hotels” and offers complimentary shuttle bus service directly from the hotel to Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo Disney Sea Park.
Getting There: Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo is a 5 minute’s walk from Shinjuku station’s West exit. (See details)

Keio Plaza Hotel Tama
Located near Sanrio Puroland, a stay at the Hello Kitty room at Keio Plaza Hotel Tama coupled with a visit to Sanrio Puroland makes the ultimate vacation for Hello Kitty fans!
Getting There: Keio Plaza Hotel Tama is located next to Tama-Center station on the Keio and Odakyu Lines. To find the fastest train route from the metro station nearest to you in Tokyo, use hyperdia and key in ‘Tama-Center’ as the destination. (See details)

6) Daiwa Royal Hotels
Daiwa Royal Hotels group operates many hotels throughout Japan, some of which offer Hello Kitty rooms. A lot of attention is paid to details in the Hello Kitty rooms here, from the bed, to the lamp to the table and even the toilet! There are two types of Hello Kitty rooms being offered by Daiwa Royal Hotels group: ‘Grande Kitty Room’ and ‘Hello Kitty Room’.
The Grande Kitty Room is currently only available at Beppuwan Royal Hotel in Kyushu. Located a 20-minutes car ride from Harmonyland, a stay here coupled with a visit to Harmonyland is the equivalence of staying at Keio Plaza Hotel Tama with a visit to Sanrio Puroland!
The Hello Kitty Rooms are available at Beppuwan Royal Hotel, Tomiura Royal Hotel, Hamanako Royal Hotel, Ise Shima Royal Hotel, Kishu Minabe Royal Hotel and Minami Awaji Royal Hotel.
On top of having Hello Kitty rooms, they also offer Hello Kitty kids menu!
7) Fly Eva Kitty
Eva Air operates Hello Kitty flights between Taipei and Tokyo / Fukuoka / Sapporo in Japan. Since there are currently no direct commercial flights to Hokkaido (my favourite part of Japan), I have toyed with the idea of taking Scoot to Taipei and taking the Hello Kitty flight to Sapporo.
It is not just the exterior of the plan that is Hello Kitty themed. The cabin ammenities and in-flight dining are also Hello Kitty themed!
Travel Tip: Good news for Singaporeans! Starting from end of June 2015, Eva Air will operate Hello Kitty flights between Singapore and Taipei!
