Home >> Learn >> Be Gone boring Ang Pow lanterns, let’s craft some Ang Pow Origami Sheep and Fortune God!

Last weekend before Chinese New Year and my Facebook page was flooded with interesting Chinese New Year craft ideas!  But the one that really stood out (for me at least) was an origami Fortune God that my friend made! I asked her for the instruction and it was readily available on YouTube:

I didn’t have a piece of paper that was red on one side and white on the other side, so I improvised and used the free red packets I got at the POSB pop-up ATMs.  You would need 2 red packets to make 1 Fortune God.  What’s so good about these POSB red packets was that it had design on one side and was totally white on the other side, and when cut opened, it formed a perfect square!

Cut open the red packet and the flap to form a nice square.

Cut open the red packet and cut away the flap to form a nice square.

Following the YouTube instruction, this was the end-product.  KAWAII!! Love it to bits!

Since it was year of the sheep goat sheep, whatever… I searched YouTube for origami sheep or goat.  Some of them were pretty complicated, but I finally found one that was easy peasy:

Still using the POSB red packets, this time I only needed half a red packet for one sheep.  So same thing, cut it open and remove the flap, but this time I cut it into two rectangles.

Cut each red packet into 2 rectangles to make 2 sheep.

Cut each red packet into 2 rectangles to make 2 sheep.

And following the YouTube instruction, I made 2 sheep!
