I was looking for a place to spend the night before a morning flight out of Taoyuan International Airport. My friend, who travels to Taiwan frequently, suggested to me to stay at Zhongli. I didn’t know Taiwan very well and haven’t even heard of Zhongli prior to that. But I just went with my friend’s suggestion anyway.
After I booked my hotel at Zhongli, I went about researching about this city and discovered that it was actually an excellent place to visit if you are visiting Taiwan with kids.
There was a night market in Zhongli, and that was all I needed to be convinced to spend the night there.
Access to Leofoo Village
Zhongli Bus Station is where you can catch a direct bus to Leofoo Village Theme Park. So if you don’t wish to stay in the pricey Leofoo Resort but would like to visit Leofoo Village, staying in Zhongli would be a good idea.
Entertainment for Kids
Since I was going to spend the night there, I searched the net for kids-friendly places to visit and found Car Car Hotpot and Bon Bon City. These two places were situated within the same entertainment complex, with Car Car Hotpot on Level 4 and Bon Bon City occupying Levels 5 and 6. So we just bummed there the whole day, escaping from the scorching summer heat, and the kids had a whale of a time!
Car Car Hotpot 车车火锅
In this post, I am going to share with you more about Car Car Hotpot. Car Car Hotpot was a car-themed steamboat restaurant. I love steamboats, but haven’t been eating it much since having kids. My kids are super itchy-handed and I always have a hard time keeping their hands off the hot pot and raw food when having steamboat. So I was delighted when I stumbled upon Car Car Hotpot when searching for a kids-friendly restaurant in Zhongli.
Car Car Hotpot was essentially a combination of
Food + Themed Restaurant + Cars + Playground
It was a formula for success in my household of boys!
Car Car Hotpot Toys Display
Once we entered the restaurant, the boys were drawn to the display shelf like magnets.
It contained all their favourite toys! Transformers, Cars, Robocar Poli, Lego, Tomica… It was like their dream toy showcase!
Car Car Hotpot Decorations
Since it’s a themed restaurant, I scrutinized the decorations. I love checking out details at themed restaurants.
We requested for a table next to the playground. There was a showcase of cars and a figurine of Mario (which the kids recognized from Mario Kart Wii) right next to our table. My 4 year old, by the way, was an EXPERT at Mario Kart Wii.
Our table was actually pretty boring. Check out the booth seats!
The booth seats were not located next to the playground, so we stuck to our boring table. But that did not stop us from popping into one of them to take a photo!
Every where you looked, there were pictures of cars or car-related logos decorating the restaurant. Even the ceiling was not spared, with an upside-down racing track running across it.
They also used real tyre rims to decorate the shelves throughout the restaurant.
Car Car Hotpot Playground
There was a playground in the form of a double-decker bus within the restaurant. My boys had this obsession with double-decker buses, where they would request to take double-decker buses just for fun. So they clearly loved the idea of a double-decker bus playground!
However, please note that the playground was intended for young children. There was a rule that children above 140cm were not allowed to play.
There were some toys in the playground.
And activity boards – the best way to utilize a small space to provide as much entertainment as possible.
A bridge and slide.
And a ball pit that occupied half of the first level of the double-decker bus.
The windows of the double-decker bus looked out to the dining area, so the boys could see us even while they were playing inside.
They never failed to shout “HELLO!!!” every time they approached the window – which was pretty hilarious.
Car Car Hotpot Amenity
There were TV monitors for us to see what the kids were up to inside the playground.
Children’s cutlery was readily available – and they were Cars-themed!
Although the seats were booth seats, they somehow managed to fit in IKEA high chairs.
Car Car Hotpot Food
Car Car Hotpot serves steamboat buffet. We could choose two flavours for our soup base. I recommend getting the cheese one.
The staff, dressed in F1 Racer uniform, pushed a trolley around for you to choose your food from.
For meat and seafood dishes, we had to order from the staff via an order chit.
The most interesting thing we ate was the mochi that came in 3 flavours: Black Sesame, Peanut and Cheese. Actually it was pretty much like tangyuan, but packaged like those taiwanese mochi snacks.
There were also free-flow drinks, fruits, chocolate fondue.
And not forgetting the ice-cream. 6 flavours of MEIJI ice-cream! I LOVE Meiji ice-cream!
Check out the parfait that MF made with the ice-cream and chocolate fondue.
He was one happy boy!!
To say that the boys were happy is an understatement. They absolutely loved this place! If it was in Singapore, we would be frequent customers. Definitely a place worth coming back to if I visit Taiwan with the kids again while they are little.
