Hello Kitty Cafe Kitchen & Dining (Taipei, Taiwan) - Bumble Bee Mum

I’m a huge Hello Kitty fan! So when we visited Taipei earlier this year, Hello Kitty Cafe was on the top of my to-visit list.  We took a train to Zhongxiao Fuxing station and it was a short walk from there (NOT stroller friendly!) to Hello Kitty Kitchen & Dining.

Once we entered, we were immediately attracted to the display of Hello Kitty themed confectionery beside the entrance!

MY super loves checking out the cakes on display at cafes.  It’s how he keeps himself occupied on our *numerous* cafe-hopping trips.

There were also Hello Kitty merchandise for sale.

Our table was on the second floor, but that did not stop us from taking photos non-stop on the way in.

We went up the stairs and WOAH! I loved the decor on the second floor so much!

The seats, the lamps, the pictures on the walls… All so kawaii!!

Especially the HUGE Hello Kitty ceiling light!

There was a huge booth which I would have loved to dine at, but we did not have enough people.

I always have a thing for booth seats at themed cafes, but I have never managed to secure myself one.  Recall my visits to Car Car Hotpot (Taiwan) and DC Super Heroes Cafe (Singapore).  Somehow I always end up at the boring tables.

But it’s okay.  At every table, there was the same detailed Hello Kitty table settings.

And imo, the best themed cafes are those that bother to decorate the TOILETS.  Just like Hungry Heroes Cafe (Singapore), I was impressed by the toilets in the cafe!

After taking more than a hundred photos of all corners of the cafe, our food FINALLY arrived. (Please note that the waiting time for food here was pretty long.)

Themed food, themed cutlery… You name it, they’ve got it! That’s what I call a themed cafe. Even the rice and burger bun was in the shape of Hello Kitty!

Themed drinks… Check! I couldn’t bear to eat that Hello Kitty chocolate.

But 2 year old MY had no qualms about biting off Hello Kitty’s head.

Oh, I forgot to mention that later on, we requested to change to the more fancy Hello Kitty sofa seats.  Lol! Anyway I couldn’t resist posing with all the beautiful Hello Kitty food.

And 4 year old MF gave me an eye roll when I tried to get him to take a photo together.  Sheesh, sons.  I’m sure he would have obliged if we were in like, an Avengers cafe instead.

Closing up on the desserts.

Overall, I can only say the food looks much nicer than they tasted.  But oh well, where themed cafes were concerned, I was more interested in the looks than the taste.  Service was somewhat lacking, waiting time for food was long, and there was a strict time limit for dining in. STILL, if you are a Hello Kitty fan, I am sure you would want to visit it for once in your lifetime.

We went to both Hello Kitty cafes in Seoul but I think this one in Taipei looks bigger.. and more food selection. I want to go soon too!!

My children and I are not really Hello Kitty fans, but we are great fans of Hello Kitty’s friend – My Melody! If there is My Melody themed dining place, I would definitely visit it!

  3. Angie.S says:

Looks like the Hello Kitty craze is worldwide! Are the desserts pricey?

  4. mmlittlee says:

Wah didn’t know you were a hello kitty fan 😉 very hard for me to appreciate this kitty and I’m a bit worried that my daughter would. I’ll be the one rolling my eyes if she asked to go to a hello kitty cafe haha I don’t know if it’s because she’s a cat or if she’s just too girly for me. But the food designing will surely make girls go gaga over and over again! Selfies and Instagram!

    • bumblebeemum says:

I’m not even sure since when I started being a Hello Kitty fan. My husband and sons are always rolling their eyes at me when I visit all the Hello Kitty or Sanrio related places on our vacations. But since I am the one who does all the travel planning for our trips, they just got to tag along! But I remember my husband went to eat from some roadside stall just before we visited this cafe. He was like, “What? I didn’t come to Taiwan to eat food from Hello Kitty Cafe. I want to eat food from roadside stalls!”

  5. Soon Koon says:

Woah! Everything is truly Hello Kitty. I believe those fans will love this place. By the way, is this an official Hello Kitty cafe?

  6. Phoebe says:

I’m not a hello kitty fan but the deco looks awesome! ! Will the guys feel shy to enter??

I wonder how my hubby and son will react hehehhe

    • bumblebeemum says:

You need to ask my husband that question! But neh, I don’t think guys feel shy to enter. As long as they are not going with a bunch of guy friends. If they are accompanying their girlfriends / wives / daughters, I think it’s perfectly normal!

  7. Susan says:

I am so upset, the last time I was in Taipei, the HK cafe was closed for renovations and I had to go to the nearby Barbie cafe instead. I’ve been to the HK cafe in Seoul and Bangkok as well and wonder why do we not have one in Singapore.

  8. eastwestlovestory says:

So cute! I’m surprised there is no Hello Kitty cafe in Singapore (yet, right?).

  9. Whoa! That’s way too many Kitties my eyes can handle. :p
I used to be a Hello Kitty fan too but these days, I prefer the black version of it. Pink is just way too cute for my black personality. Lol.
You should take the Hello Kitty plane and write about it, I think if I’m not mistaken it’s Eva Air?

  10. Ruth says:

Oh wow! This is one of the cutest things I have seen. The details on the store and on the food are incredible. Everything looks so good and beautiful. This is a place I will not miss in Taipei.

    • bumblebeemum says:

Truth be told, everything indeed looks good and beautiful, but the taste of the food is really just so-so. Still, if you love themed cafes like me, definitely it’s a place to visit when in Taipei! 🙂

  11. Tanja says:

so cute! I love cats! #travel tuesday

  12. This is very cute, like you said, more for the looks than the taste.

Thanks for linking up to #wednesdaywanderlust

  13. Anna says:

Soooooo cute! I’m a big Hello Kitty fan and I’d love to visit that cafe. Those desserts are amazing! #traveltuesday

  14. Estrella says:

I loved Hello Kitty growing up! When I was living in South Korea, I made sure to visit the Hello Kitty cafe in Seoul. This one is a little cuter though!

    • bumblebeemum says:

When I visited South Korea, I visited the much better Hello Kitty Town & Amusement at Madu. A lot less famous than the cafe in Seoul but tons more fun for my then baby. Wonder if it’s still around..

  15. Oh my goodness, I never even knew this existed – but how cute is it? It’s every little girls (and some boys) dream! I love the little details from the burger buns to the interiors. Thanks for linking up with #MondayEscapes

  16. What a fun cafe! I feel like most themed cafes don’t have to best food, but like you said it’s more about the experience.

    • bumblebeemum says:

Yes, it is indeed true that themed cafes don’t have the best food. But I guess if I want to have good food, I would go to, say, Michelin star restaurants? And if I want a fun and unique experience, I would head to a themed cafe. 🙂
