DC Super Heroes Cafe Puteri Harbour - Johor Bahru Malaysia - Bumble Bee Mum

Last year when we were having a staycation at Hotel Jen Puteri Harbour, I spotted a DC Super Heroes Cafe right opposite Puteri Harbour Family Entertainment Centre (where Hello Kitty Town and Thomas Town) was.  I super LOVE themed cafes, but back then, we didn’t have time to visit the cafe.  So I made a mental note to visit it the next time I’m back in Puteri Harbour.

Almost a year later, with numerous distractions from Taman Mount Austin in between, we were finally back at Puteri Harbour for a staycation at Somerset Puteri Harbour Nusajaya.  And I could visit DC Super Heroes Cafe Puteri Harbour at last!

We have visited DC Super Heroes Cafe in Singapore before and the one in Puteri Harbour was much smaller.

While it was not as elaborate as its Singapore counterpart in terms of decoration, with the space they had, they filled it with loads of themed decorations.

The tables, chairs, table settings, menu etc. were themed – that much they did not disappoint.

But they exceeded my expectations when I found some colouring pencils and themed colouring sheets for the kids!

So while waiting for the food, the boys kept themselves occupied with colouring – something I was pretty glad for.

Food wise, I ordered the most good-looking dishes – as I always do when I visit themed cafes.  Starting with The Flying Bat Burger (RM28++).  Taste wise, it was really not bad.  The beef was easy to chew and the buns were crispy.  But it did pale in comparison to the batman burger at DC Super Heroes Cafe Singapore, though considering the price, it was much more value-for-money here.

I super loved the themed sauce holders, which were hidden at the back of the burger.  They were so cute!

For the kids, we ordered The Bat Mac & Cheese (RM21++).  The kids were so thrilled when they saw the batman logo cheese! It was such a simple idea to theme a pasta dish, other than just serving it in a themed plate.

Taste wise, the macaroni was a tad overcooked for my liking – I preferred my pasta al dente.  But the boys loved it soft as it was.

For desserts, we had the Banana & Raisins Pancake (RM16.50++).  The pancakes were a little on the dry side, but nevertheless the attempts to incorporate a Superman theme with the logo on top and serving the maple syrup in a superman holder was enough to satisfy me.

The burger and macaroni came with a choice of ice lemon tea or ice peach tea.  I expected ordinary glasses of ice lemon tea and ice peach tea to be served, but when they arrived, we were all like, “OMG! LOOK AT THE ICE CUBE!”

I loved how simple yet innovative the themed food here was.  I mean.. They didn’t have to go to the extent of moulding rice balls into characters like Pompompurin Cafe Singapore.  All they needed were the right tools (cookie cutters and ice trays in the right shapes) and creative use of them.

Despite being a (self-proclaimed) themed cafe veteran, I was surprised many times in our visit to DC Super Heroes Cafe at Puteri Harbour:  Colouring for kids, the batman logo cheese, the ice cubes.   But the biggest surprise was the BILL.

Themed cafes in all parts of the world are not known to be cheap.  Considering there is licensing fee on top of the usual overheads like rental and labour, I have grown accustomed to the fact that themed cafe food is usually expensive.   But our meal here consisting of two mains, a dessert and two drinks totaled to just RM72.90 after taxes! That’s like what.. 24 SGD / 18 USD using current exchange rate.  Insane right?? This was officially the cheapest themed cafe I have ever visited.

I can’t think of a reason NOT to visit DC Super Heroes Cafe if you were visiting Puteri Harbour at Johor Bahru.  Really, just go.

We had wanted to try the DC cafe in MBS twice and twice we stood at the “queue” to a not so empty cafe without anyone attending to us. When I did ask for a seat, a staff told me to wait back at the queue. Gosh.. that didn’t fall too well and we left. The second time, I think it was full house.

I really love those chairs your photographed. I could do with a pair in my house! lol Looking at the food and decor, I think I like our Pompompurin food experience more. Too much cuteness! This one’s for my boys.

I feel I don’t bring the kids to enough places actually. I tend to stick to my comfort zones (Singapore, Malaysia, Japan) over and over again. Next year would be the big year we go out of Asia-Pacific at last! Can’t wait!

Wow! That price is awesome! $18?! I’m not sure the food looks too great though… But the ice cubes? Those are awesome! Super creative, fun, and surprising! From your posts on themed cafes, I’m always in love when they have some sort of culinary surprise in the mix: something decorative in the meal that you wouldn’t otherwise expect. Glad the coloring kept the boys entertained. Those pages look fun and time consuming to color!

  10. I lobe all the effort they made with the presentation – the pancakes look particularly good, even if they were a bit dry. Fantastic value!
