I remember many years ago, when MF was still a baby or toddler, I brought him to IMM and there was this giant tree with a slide that I thought looked super fun. However, MF was too young for it then and I looked forward to the day he would be old enough to play.
But alas, that giant tree is gone, and there is now another playground in its place. Usually when I’m at Jurong East, I would let the boys play at Westgate Wonderland. But MF loves to check out new playgrounds. You just tell him we’re going to a playground that he hasn’t been to before, he would be totally game to try it out. So one fine day, we decided to take the free shuttle bus from Westgate to IMM to check out the playground there!
Dry Play Area
The first thing I noticed when we arrived at the playground at IMM was that it was sheltered! Woohoo.. I love sheltered playgrounds. There were the usual playground elements like activity boards, rock-climbing, tunnels, slides and spinning equipment.
There were two small slides that were great for younger children.
And a taller purple slide that was MF’s favourite.
Around the border of the playground, there was an obstacle course which tested the kids’ balance and strength. MF, at 5 years old, was at the stage where he loved obstacle courses.
He managed the balancing courses but struggled with the ‘monkey bar’ section.
The playground was rather like a typical neighbourhood playground. What I liked, besides the shelter, was the mix of equipment suitable for both younger and older children. It was a good alternative to Westgate Wonderland if you find Westgate Wonderland too big and crowded and hard to monitor your kids – especially the younger ones. If my kids were toddlers, I think I would rather bring them here than to chase them down at Westgate Wonderland.
Water Play Area
The dry play area was not very challenging for MF, so he decided he wanted to go to the water play area after a while. The water play area was right beside the dry play area. However the entrance to the water play area was rather distinct, so you don’t get children running between the wet and dry areas like what we encountered recently at Waterway Point.
I thought the water play area here was above average among free water play areas in Singapore. There was a slide, water splashing down on the kids and water guns for kids to shoot water at each other with.
What MF was most fascinated with was the water play system at the side with water flowing through a series of bowls.
I think the water play area here was really fun. I do think it is better than the water play at Westgate and JEM. So if you are headed to IMM for some shopping with the kids, don’t forget to bring towel and change of clothes for the kids.
But if you are looking primarily for water play in the area, let’s not forget there is still a super cool-looking free water play in Jurong East – the one at Singapore Science Centre. Which *gasp*, I haven’t brought the boys to yet! Okay, now I know where to bring the boys on our next outing to the West! Just nice, Avengers Station is coming. *EXCITED!*
