I can’t believe it’s the end of the year already! At the start of the year, I signed up for Friends of the Gardens annual pass and made a resolution to visit every single seasonal floral display at the Flower Dome at Gardens by the Bay. And I’m proud to say that did it! (At least I think I didn’t miss anything? Lol…)
Just to be emo and all, since this is going to be the last event at Flower Dome for the year, let’s start by looking back at the year.
And now to end off the year, we have Merry Medley!
If you follow me on Instagram, you may have caught snippets of Merry Medley during the day time on my Instagram story. If you missed it, too bad lor… You can start following me on Instagram, where I’m kind of hooked to doing IG stories. Coz, well, it’s so much easier than blogging. Bwahaha… #ShamlessSelfPromotion
Merry Medley, this year's Christmas floral display at Flower Dome @gardensbythebay is so magical! Check out our Instagram story for a quick walk around Merry Medley in the day time. I highly recommend coming at night, I believe the lighting will be more beautiful then! * #bbmlocaltourist #gardensbythebay #flowerdome #flowerdomesingapore #merrymedley #christmasatgardensbythebay #Singapore #singaporetrip #singaporetravel #singaporeinsiders #YourSingapore #VisitSingapore #travelblog #travelblogger #iamtb #travelmom #travelbloggeres #mondayescapes #traveltuesday #wednesdaywanderlust #wanderfulwednesday #citytripping #myfavouritetrip #familytravelhq #sonycamera #sonya6000 #sonyalpha #SonyAlphasClub #sonyimages
I was so in love in Merry Medley after my daytime visit, that when I was invited on a media visit to the Flower Dome at night – after closing hours, how awesome – I knew I had to lug my tripod along to do a (hopefully) better video than what I did on IG story.
How? Swee (beautiful) right?? Okay, moving on… It’s photo spam time.
Merry Medley in the day
My fellow Friends of the Garden, Mabel, and I arrived at Bayfront MRT to be greeted by a light drizzle. We decided to pay for the buggy (SGD3) to save us the trouble of walking in the rain between the MRT and Flower Dome – a decision we totally regretted. Because when we wanted to go back to the MRT from the Flower Dome, it was raining heavily and they CANCELLED the buggy due to lightning risks. Like what?! We paid for the buggy precisely because it was raining and the buggy gets cancelled when it rains? Zzzz…. #YouHaveBeenWarned #JustBringUmbrella
After grabbing a morning coffee and catching a few more Pokemon, we finally entered the Flower Dome, and WOAH! We were greeted with a giant snow globe with a spinning ballerina inside!
Moving on downstairs, we walked along the designated path, checking out nutcrackers and angels, spinning among the beds of Christmas blooms like poinsettias and amaryllis.
And in the centre was the tower with a toy soldiers band and angelic choir welcoming the guests!
We also spent some time admiring the decorations on the Christmas trees. I absolutely adore the choice of decoration pieces. They were so pretty!
Merry Medley at Night
During our night time visit, the first thing you may have noticed is that colourful luminarie light sculpture.
Luminarie structures, which originated from Kobe Luminarie in Japan (yeah, trust the Japanese to come up with the most awesome illuminations), are highlights of the annual Christmas Wonderland at Gardens by the Bay.
If you’re unsure what’s the difference between Christmas Wonderland and Merry Medley (you will need to understand the difference when I talk about ticketing at the end of the post), let me me explain. Christmas Wonderland is held at the outdoor gardens, where luminarie light sculptures, Christmas festival market and Fairground with games and rides will be set up. You can read our post on last year’s Christmas Wonderland for an idea.
Merry Medley (which is what I’ve been babbling about in this post) refers to the display within the Flower Dome.
Okay, moving on with the photo spam of Merry Medley. Like I mentioned on Instagram, Merry Medley is much more beautiful at night. The lighting on the Christmas trees is really magical when it’s dark!
And the snow globes glow with changing-coloured lights.
Free Christmas Gifts
Christmas is the season for giving! Visitors who purchase 2 Double Conservatories tickets from 11 Nov to 1 Dec 2016 will receive a free gift.
Merry Medley floral display promotion
Like I mentioned earlier, Christmas Wonderland is a separate event that will be happening at Gardens by the Bay‘s outdoor gardens. This year, there will be an admission fee for Christmas Wonderland. (Yeah, it was free to enter last year.) Admission starts from $4 per pax for the first week (2 – 8 Dec), but increasingly more expensive as it gets closer to Christmas.
But here’s the good news. With your Christmas Wonderland ticket, you can get $4 off local admission rate for Double Conservatories at Gardens by the Bay. Which means that if you go between 2 – 8 Dec, your admission to Christmas Wonderland will be offset by the discount you get from the conservatories admission. (This promotion is only open to local residents.)
This is where ticketing is going to get a bit confusing so read carefully:
Tickets to Christmas Wonderland must be purchased ONLINE.
Yup, I repeat. Before you head down to Gardens by the Bay, please purchase your tickets to Christmas Wonderland ONLINE first!!
Then to get the $4 off for the ticket to double conservatories, you need to present your Christmas Wonderland ticket at Gardens by the Bay ticketing counters to enjoy the offer. (The $4 discount is not applicable for online purchase of double conservatories ticket.)
Don’t blur okay??
