This year MF started primary school.  During his first week of school, he had to fill in a line in his Social Studies workbook which said “I am good at __________.”

He sat at the table pondering what he should write.  I gave some suggestions like… Running? … Rock-climbing? … Mathematics? … Fighting with didi? Hahaha.. Kidding.  I didn’t suggest the last one.  I’m mean, but not that mean.

In the end, this is what he wrote.

Arts for All 9

I guess it should come as no surprise that his favourite classes in primary school are Art and Music.  (Actually wait, I was a bit surprised he didn’t rank PE among his favourite lessons.)  After all, I have mentioned quite a few times on the blog about MF’s interest in Art & Craft.

Does your family have an interests in the Arts too? Of course, Arts is not just about art as in painting and crafting.  Maybe your kid enjoys dancing? Or playing a musical instrument? Or singing? Or theatre?

Believer Music Tampines Review 08

If you or your kids enjoy any form of Arts, then I’m sure you’re going to be as excited about the programmes that Arts for All has up its sleeves for this month as much as we are!

What is Arts for All?

Arts for All is an initiative under National Arts Council to promote self-expression, creativity and bonding through the arts by bringing it to where people live, work and play. Through a well spread-out network of Arts and Culture Nodes, Arts for All brings endless fun and exciting art programmes to your family.  No matter where you are, there will always be something to look forward to without having to go too far from home!

This month, from 15 – 26 February 2017, get ready to be treated to a delightful line-up of over 25 arts and cultural activities, ranging from dance, music and theatrical performances, to interactive visual art installations and hands-on workshops.

Highlights for Families

Visual Arts Display and Activity by Tan Zi Xi

Date: 18 Feb 2017 (Saturday)
Time: 11am & 1pm
Venue: SAFRA Mount Faber

Look, you definitely DO NOT want to miss this.   Five artworks from Singapore illustrator and installation artist Tan Zi Xi which will be on display at SAFRA Mount Faber from 18 Feb to 19 March.  I don’t even stay anywhere near Mount Faber but I’m so travelling across the island for this.

Never heard of Tan Zi Xi? You probably missed last year’s Imaginarium then.  If you were there, you probably remember the mad awesome art installation reflecting garbage in the sea? The ‘Plastic Ocean’ exhibit was my favourite exhibit at Imaginarium 2016.  And yup, that was Tan Zi Xi’s work.

Just like ‘Plastic Ocean’,  Tan Zi Xi’s ‘An Effort Most Futile’ collection, which will be on display at SAFRA Mount Faber on 18 Feb, again highlights the negative effects of plastic consumption and wastage.  The exhibition will be a great opportunity to allow children to learn about environmental pollution!

Here’s further good news for you if you’re a fan of Tan Zi Xi’s works.  At 11am and 1pm on 18 Feb, you will have the opportunity to jointly create a painting with Tan Zi Xi in a hands-on fringe activity inspired by the collection.  This fringe activity is suitable for participants aged 13 years and older.  (Awww… Sorry MF.)  To register for a slot, call 6377 3677.

Music lovers, this one is for you!

Over at SAFRA Toa Payoh, take part in a boisterous music programme that uses everyday objects such as pots and pans to create a stomping performance! OMG, my kids are going to LOVE this.  You have NO idea how often I have to tell my kids to stop playing with all the stuff in the kitchen while I’m cooking.

Remember to join the pre-performance workshop at 2pm to create your very own music instruments using everyday objects!
