Much has been said about Disney on Ice – Magical Ice Festival and what an awesome spectacle it has been!
This March holidays, the show arrived in Singapore, much to the delight of ‘Let it Go’ fans.
But Disney on Ice – Magical Ice Festival, was not just about ‘Frozen’ and ‘Let it Go’ for me. For my kids, maybe yes, it was all about ‘Let it Go’. But for me, I grew up watching The Little Mermaid and Beauty & The Beast.
Did you know that Beauty & The Beast was the VERY FIRST movie I watched at Yishun 10 cineplex when it first opened? (PS: Yishun 10 was Asia’s very first multiplex, opened back in 1992.) Back in 1992, my mum brought me to watch Disney’s Beauty & The Beast at the newly opened Yishun 10, which was one of my fondest childhood memory.
And as a child, my FAVOURITE Disney soundtrack was The Little Mermaid soundtrack. I loved it as much as kids nowadays love ‘Let it Go’. I used to copy out the lyrics of every single song in that soundtrack, playing the cassette repeatedly (yes, Disney soundtracks used to come in cassette tapes) until I could memorise every single song.
Watching Disney on Ice – Magical Ice Festival, allowed me to relive my childhood. Watching all the classic scenes from our favorite Disney cartoons come to live in the form of an ice-skating show, it was kind of surreal.
If you haven’t already caught Disney on Ice Magical Ice Festival, there is still time to catch it while it is in Singapore till 20 March 2016. But in the meantime, let me round up my 5 favourite moments of the show, in videos:
#5 The bloopers
I know, I’m mean to list bloopers as my favourite moments. I’m sure the cast practiced real hard to put up a flawless performance. But imo, bloopers make them seem human.
#4 Swimming Ariel
The song “Part of Your World” alone was enough to send shivers down my spine. (No, the shivers weren’t due to the fact that I was sitting pretty near the icey stage in a sleeveless dress.) But I wasn’t expecting Ariel to start ‘swimming’ and that swimming stunt sent a roar of approval through the audience.
#3 The beast to human transformation
I was just waiting for the moment for the beast from Beauty & The Beast to transform into a handsome prince. And when the climax of the ‘Beauty & The Beast’ segment came, it did not disappoint. Helps that the prince was kind of cute.
#2 The Aerial Ariel
One of the best moments of Disney on Ice did not even take place on ice. It took place way above the ice.
#1 Let it Go
As old-school as I am, I got to go with ‘Let it Go’ as THE moment of the show. With all the kids in the audience singing at the top their voices each time “Let it Go” came on, plus Elsa doing a costume change right in front of me, this was definitely the best moment of the show.
