Chocolate Origin – Amuse the kids with Kawaii Latte Art!

One day, Natasha (so.natty.sg) and I were going to Ichiban Boshi at AMK Hub for lunch.  We spotted a Chocolate Origin store right beside Ichiban Boshi.

I was not a big chocolate fan.  I’m more of an ice-cream & all other creamy creamy stuff fan. But Nat said she heard the lava cake was good, so we decided to share one. musicnote2 一人一半,感情不散 musicnote Stop singing already! But I can’t help it! Recently Nat ran into Elva Hsiao and since then, Chinese pop songs have been ringing in my head. It’s her fault.

There was no seating area at the AMK Hub store.  We just stood at the counter and finished the Lava Cake up quickly.  The Lava Cake was A LOT better than I expected! Because you see that white layer below? That’s ICE-CREAM.  And there was quite a bit of it.  So the Lava Cake was not overpowering chocolatey.

They also sold chocolate cakes.  But they did not sell them in slices.  You got to buy the whole cake.  Nat was super sweet and bought one for me to bring home!

The kids were super excited when they opened the box to reveal a beautiful brown chocolate cake.  They stuck the knife in before I could take a single photo. Oh well.. At least my photo of the chocolate cake is unique.

And you see, thanks to Nat (yes, blame her for everything, even after she bought me a cake), I started to dabble a bit with IG.  So I posted a photo of the above chocolate cake on IG.  And out of curiosity, I went to check out other people’s #chocolateorigin photos. You know, just to make sure that I was the only person whose chocolate cake photo had a knife mark.  But what I saw instead were photos of KAWAII Latte Art!!!

After scrutinizing a few photos, I found out that this was available at their Bugis Junction branch.  So one day, when I was in the Bugis area, I decided to check out the Chocolate Origin branch there.

The seating area was not very big.  And it was not particularly child-friendly.  Look how high the tables and stools were!

After I planted the kids in their stools, I went to check out the menu.

I ordered a Hot Chocolate for the kids and an Iced Latte for myself.  I was told that the waiting time for the drinks would be quite long.  (I was there on a weekend.)  There was no play area or toys to entertain the kids with in the meantime.  So we ended up playing with the camera.

The above photos were taken by my boys of each other. NOT BAD RIGHT?? They were fighting for the camera after a while.  So I took my phone out and they took photo of each other taking photos.. LOL.

After after like a hundred photos, my iced latte arrived!!

The kids were super disappointed when I told them this was coffee. (They know that coffee = mummy’s drink.  Yes, I drink a lot of coffee.)  And they were told to wait at their table, far away from my latte. Lest they destroyed it.  They were not pleased.

MF started inching closer and closer…

And exercised a lot of self-control not to stick the straw into the latte.

I distracted him by telling him to go to the counter to peek at what they were drawing on his hot chocolate.

And it was finally done… They got… A MINION!!

And one last photo of our drinks below I allowed the boys to stick their straws / spoons in.

Even after I gave the boys the green light to start drinking, they were a bit hesitant to do so.  I guess they understood the meaning of ‘too beautiful to drink’!

Chocolate Origin Bugis Junction Review 21

Or maybe they thought the Minion was going to jump out and bite them or something??

Chocolate Origin Bugis Junction Review 20

Okay… If nobody was going to drink that hot chocolate, let’s just take more photos.  And I forgot to mention: The hot drinks came with a piece of cookie.  Which was what MF was eating in the photo below:

After eating his cookie, MF finally decided to take the first sip… Or rather, scoop.  His expression was hilarious! I wonder what he was thinking.

Carefully, he scooped up the minion…

And into his mouth at last! He went, “Mmmm… Nice!!” and the rest of the hot chocolate did not take long to disappear into the kids’ tummies.

We had lots of fun at Chocolate Origin Bugis, even though there was no toys whatsoever for the kids.  The anticipation of seeing what picture would come on their drink was pretty exciting for the kids! I would definitey pop by if I am in the area again.  Gonna try requesting for a different picture and see what they would come up with!

*Added 1 Aug 2015* Chocolate Origin @ Kallang Wave

Recently I was at Kallang Wave and spotted another Chocolate Origin store there.

Chocolate Origin Kallang Wave Singapore Sports Hub 1

They had a seating area that was much more spacious than the Bugis outlet.  The seats and tables were also lower.  Hence, more kids-friendly.

They also had ‘Art in Cups’ at the Kallang Wave outlet.  And they also sold their signature cakes in individual slices here!
