DC Super Heroes Cafe (Singapore) - Bumble Bee Mum

If you have been followed my blog, you will know I am a huge fan of themed cafes.  And my favourite themed cafe in Singapore prior to this was Hungry Heroes Cafe at Tessensohn Road.  I have two boys and well, boys just love Super Heroes, don’t they?

Recently, yet another Super Heroes themed cafe opened in Singapore – conveniently located at Marina Bay Sands! I happily packed the boys off to MBS in spite of the haze to check it out.

Before visiting, I stalked their Facebook Page and was a bit worried about the very negative reviews they were getting.  But in a way, I think that kind of lowered my expectations.  I am not very fussy about my food to be frank.  ESPECIALLY where themed cafes were concerned. To me, themed cafes are about their decor and how well they worked the cafe around the theme, and not so much about how good the food tastes.  But that’s just me.

If inconsistency was the reason they got bad reviews, I can only say that I must have lucked out and visited on one of their good days.  We totally enjoyed our meal at DC Super Heroes Cafe!

DC Super Heroes Cafe was separated into 3 sections: Dining section, cafe section and shopping section.   Let’s start with the dining section.

We arrived early at 11+am.  It’s just a blogger habit of mine to visit eateries earlier than usual meal times so that I can snap photos with minimal people.  Plus I did not make reservations, so I was worried that if we didn’t go early, we would not be able to get a table.  But I think going early was probably a contributing factor to our good experience, since the staff were not too busy.

The dining area was not very big, but it was totally surrounded by Super Heroes themed decorations!

I super loved the above themed booth seats! But they were all marked as ‘RESERVED’.  So remember to make reservations if you want to grab a booth seat.  Since we had no reservations, we were shown to one of the more boring tables.

Although it was not as fanciful as the booth seats, it had themed table number and sharing plates.  And check out the seats: They had Super Hero logos on them!

And we had Superman flying over our heads!

Superman and Batman busts staring at us while we dined.

And my absolute absolute favourite: Superman bashing through the wall!

So I went around taking photos while waiting for our food, and when I returned, I saw the boys playing with some Super Heroes figurines.  I was thinking, “Wah, so good? They even have toys for kids to play with?” Then I realised they couldn’t be toys because they were made of glass? And my husband said they were salt and pepper holders!

The first item that was served was our ‘Dynamic Duo’s Double Choc Crack!’ ($9.90++), which was a mouthful of words for MILKSHAKE .  Anyway I read in the reviews that not all drinks were served with Super Heroes design, so I checked and double-checked with the staff that the drink I ordered would come with a theme before I ordered it.  And tada, as advertised.

I also ordered the signature Batman’s Dark Knight Burger ($25.90++).  Again, the reviews said there were some inconsistency in the presentation of the burger, so I checked and double checked that it would have a Batman ‘chop’ on the burger before ordering.

This burger was just too instagram-worthy, so I grabbed a few more salt & pepper holders to take more photos.

Shared some photos on Instagram, because that’s what you do at a cafe to appear 10 years younger than you really are.

We also ordered their Chicken Hawk Quesidilla ($14.90++).

And a pasta for the kids, The Flash Lightning Linguine ($19.90++), which was not so instagram-worthy.

Overall I was very happy with the food.  My hubby and I both thought that the burger was super yummy (though comments on Facebook seemed to suggest otherwise).  The Quesidilla was not bad, though not WOW like Hard Rock Cafe’s.  And the pasta – I didn’t even get to taste it.  The boys finished the pasta among themselves.  But it can’t be too bad if the boys can finish it off – they can be quite picky!

After having our brunch, we hopped over to the cafe side.  Since we already had our milkshake earlier, we just went around to take photos.

Their desserts were mostly themed, and the kids were super amused by them!

The most striking dessert had to be the Super Heroes Cupcakes.

Again, the seats in the room were Batman themed.

And just to make it a bit more realistic, there was even a GCPD noticeboard outside.

Time for souvenirs! Am I the only person who feels like a tourist every time I step into Marina Bay Sands? Going into shops like these make me feel totally touristy.

There were plenty of cool stuff to buy at the shop.

And *ahem*, guess who was the last winner? :p

So you can guess… I’ll be back!

Update (9 Jan 2015)

We were back DC Super Heroes Cafe again and noticed that their menu has changed significantly.  Instead of a paper menu, the menu now comes in the form of a comic book.  I also noticed that the prices have increased quite a bit for several items.

Beside the Batman burger, they have added a Superman burger which was very nicely presented.

However, on the whole I felt that the food has become quite overpriced now.

  • This is super cool!
I’ve never visited any themed cafe so I wouldn’t know that it’s all about the design and not the food. Lucky for you that you were able to catch them on one of their good days though.

PS. The blogger habit of going to a venue earlier than meal times is also a habit of mine. Specially here in the Middle East where taking photos of places with recognizable faces of people in it can get you in trouble. But anyway, I practice it everywhere I go. :p

I’m a big fan of themed cafes! Just like I like to throw themed parties. It’s this thing about trying to make everything fit and stretching one’s creativity.

And yeah, Singapore is even smaller than Middle East, so I try my best to take photos without other people in it. But given Singapore’s population density, it is mission impossible. So I just try to blur out people’s faces as far as possible. (Though sometimes it’s just not possible at crowded places unless I blur out an entire photo.)

  • Yep, now we’re talking. My husband and son would LOVE it here! Thanks for linking up with #MondayEscapes. ps. Just a reminder for next time, it’s only one post per link up now 🙂 See you soon!
