Indoor playgrounds, I have been to plenty.   But indoor WATER playground, this is a first for me.  If you ask me, Singapore should have had an indoor swimming pool long ago! :p

Splash @ Kidz Amaze opened with a bang last Sunday by offering free admission to all.  The last time I tried to go for a free admission offer in Singapore (remember during last year’s SG50 celebrations when a lot of stuff were free?), I was horrified by the crowd and queue.

So I decided to skip the free promotion last Sunday.  Instead this week, on a nice and quiet weekday, I brought the boys to check out Splash @ Kidz Amaze.  We have been Kidz Amaze members since like forever, so it cost us $16 for 2 adults + 2 kids.  (I will share more on the admission fees at the end of the post.) I would rather spend $16 than to spend my morning queueing up for free entry.  But that’s just me.

Main Play Area

My first impression of Splash @ Kidz Amaze was that it was pretty small.  What you see in the photo above was basically it.  There was a wading area which I will show you later, but if you’re looking for stuff like slides and water buckets, this was all.

There were four slides in the main play area.  This was the tallest one:

This was the second tallest:

This was the third:

And this baby slide was the fourth:

As you can see, the slides weren’t very thrilling.  And there was a minimum height restriction of 120cm for the first two slides.  Frankly, if my kids were above 120cm, I would bring them to Sengkang swimming complex nearby which cost a fraction of the price and has WAY bigger slides.

So anyway, the boys were too big for the baby slide and too small for the big slides, so they were stuck with the green slide.  Which they went on over and over and over.

They also enjoyed the joy of having the big bucket of water raining down on them.

Check out MF getting dunked!!

If you are bringing your young kids onto the green slide, note that the top of the green slide will get hit by the big bucket of water.  Don’t get caught by surprise like these folks in the background:

MY decided that he actually enjoyed getting dunked by the water.  So he deliberately sat at the top of the green slide waiting for the water to come down.  So glad I was here on a quiet weekday and he could sit up there all he wanted without blocking other people.

MY came up with a routine of waiting at the top of the green slide until the water poured on him before he made his way down the slide.

There wasn’t really that much to play, but oh well, the boys seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Wading Area

The wading area was somewhat separated from the main play area by this octopus that was spraying water from its tentacles.

At the wading area, there were a lot of apparatus with water jetting out from them in all directions.

There were several water guns which the kids could rotate and shoot water and each other.

The boys enjoyed their water gun fights and I was happy to not have to break up a fight for once.

Projector

Splash @ Kidz Amaze Indoor Water Playground - SAFRA Punggol Indoor Swimming Pool - Blog Review 26

There was this projector thingy that sent ripples through the water when the kids went up to touch the screen.  MF hit it a few times and went, “Nothing happened” and ran off.  After visiting MOSH! and Future World, we were half expecting a shark or something to jump out at us.  But nope, not so high tech.

Party Rooms

There were 3 themed party rooms are Splash @ Kidz Amaze surrounding the wading area.

Pirate Room:

Under the Sea Room:

I like the spaciousness of the party rooms at Splash @ Kidz Amaze.  It was this spaciousness that attracted us to hold MY’s first birthday party at Kidz Amaze Toa Payoh.  I think Splash @ Kidz Amaze would be a popular birthday party venue! So if you are planning to hold your kids’ parties there, do book well ahead.

Shower Room

Hot water was available at the shower (Yay!).  Soap via soap dispensers was also available in each shower room.

Lockers

Splash-@-Kidz-Amaze-Indoor-Water-Playground---SAFRA-Punggol-Indoor-Swimming-Pool---Blog-Review-29

Electronic lockers were located in the changing rooms. I would have preferred them to be outside the changing room so that either my husband or myself could access the locker any time each of us needed to get something, but oh well.

The lockers were are chargeable at $4 (medium) and $6 (large) respectively. You need to prepare the exact amount as no change will be given.  The lockers can be opened and closed as many times as required until you end the rental.

Admission Fee / Play Rates:

Note: KA refers to Kidz Amaze members. D refers to SAFRA members.

Note that children below 18 months can enter for free.

Update: I was informed by Kidz Amaze that children under 18 months old are not allowed in the water play area.

Update again (Aug 2016): I was informed by Kidz Amaze that children under 18 months old are allowed in the water play area.

I am SO glad I signed up for a Kidz Amaze membership donkey years ago when Kidz Amaze only had one branch at SAFRA Jurong.  Since then, Kidz Amaze opened a second branch at SAFRA Toa Payoh and this is the third Kidz Amaze, so I think I have totally made my membership worth.
If you look at the pricing, I think it is reasonable for Kidz Amaze members.  I don’t think it is worth it for Guests.  Not even SAFRA members.

In Summary…

Splash @ Kidz Amaze Indoor Water Playground - SAFRA Punggol Indoor Swimming Pool - Blog Review 25

On the whole, I felt Splash @ Kidz Amaze was catered for young children.  If you have a child who is below 18 month old, don’t need to think about it, GO.

Admission is free for children below 18 months (accompanying adults still need to pay though, but it’s just $2 for KA and SAFRA members / $5 for public) and they will enjoy the wading area and baby slide.

You can argue that Sengkang swimming complex has about the same stuff (and more), but I found the water at Sengkang swimming complex freaking COLD when I was there.  Whereas the water at Splash @ Kidz Amaze was just nice – not hot, not cold.  I think they have some water temperature regulation going on.  Plus there was hot water in the shower here but not at Sengkang swimming complex – which I think is important for young children.  Really, try bathing your baby under a cold shower and you’ll understand.

But if your child is old and tall enough to enjoy the slides at Sengkang Swimming Complex, it is cheaper and much more exciting there.

The main selling point of Splash @ Kidz Amaze is that it is indoors.  When we were there, it was scorching hot when we arrived.  Halfway through it rained cat and dogs.  Then the sun came out and it was scorching hot again.  Throughout all this, we were happily playing inside and oblivious to the weather changes outdoors.

Note that indoors does not mean air-conditioned.  It is not totally enclosed and there is natural ventilation. What this means is that if there is haze, you will not be out of the haze.

To me, this is a wet-weather plan for days when I’m stuck at home with the kids without the husband and provided I stay in the area.  I wouldn’t specially travel to Punggol all the way from another end of Singapore to play here.  But if I stay around here, I may just bring the kids down to play occasionally when I am solo-parenting because it is very easy for me to monitor the kids while they are playing here.  It is the same reason I would pay so much to bring my kids to play at indoor playgrounds in general.  But I would only pay the Kidz Amaze member price.  I think the guest price is too expensive considering the size of the playground.

The good thing about Kidz Amaze membership is that you only need to sign up for 1 child and the siblings can ride on it. For e.g. we only have 1 membership for MF.  MY doesn’t have a membership.  But we used MF’s membership to get member price for this visit and even to book MY’s birthday party.  And the membership fee is a one-time fee until your child is, well, no longer a child.
