I have mentioned quite a number of time on my blog that I absolutely LOVE trick art.  My love for trick art started in 2011 during our visit to Korea where we visited the Trick Art Museum in Jeju.

Back then, trick art was still quite a novelty.  But in recent years, I have found it to be increasingly common place.

The boys have been to many trick art museums before.  Korea, Japan, Malaysia.  And they love it! Especially the older boy MF.

He is like super drama king.  Don’t believe, check this out:

The younger boy MY is still warming up to the whole trick art concept.  Most of the time, he has been there to spoil the photos.

But he tries.  And he’s getting better with each trick art museum that we visit.

Truth be told, the thing about trick art museums with kids is… It CAN be quite stressful.  Getting the kids to cooperate to get a ‘perfect shot’ is much harder than it looks! Behind every shot, there is a lot of coaxing involved.

So in my opinion, if you are travelling with young children, you should only make trick art museums a destination IF your children enjoy it.

And if they DO love it, you will find yourself making trick art museums a regular part of your travels.

Because the photos you come home to will never fail to bring a smile to your face.

Back to Alive Museum Singapore.  It think it is extremely important, with so many trick art museums around the world. for one to incorporate art that is unique to the country it is in.

I realised this when we were visiting the Trick Art Museum in Tokyo (read about it here), where they had a whole section dedicated to Japanese art.  Despite that Trick Art Museum in Tokyo being very small, I was happy with the money I spent on admission there because of the Japanese section – which I wouldn’t be able to find in other parts of the world.

So when I visited Alive Museum Singapore, I was on a lookout for Singapore-related paintings.

And there they were!

We found pictures of familiar Singapore landmarks around Alive Museum Singapore.  For that, it was a huge plus point.

Some where pretty in-the-face while some were slightly more obscure.  Like how Marina Bay Sands formed the backdrop of this cannon trick art.

Of course, not everything was Singapore-related.  There were some trick art that were pretty morbid.

I wasn’t sure if it was such a great idea for the kids to be part of such trick art experiences.  But hey, they seemed to be having fun.

Another feature that was different about Alive Museum Singapore from some other trick art museums I have visited was the inclusive of Object Art.

Object Art allows visitors to be part of the sculpture pieces, creating a more immersive experience.

Another thing worth mentioning about Alive Museum Singapore was that they update their exhibits.  This year, they have opened two new zones:

Young @ Heart Zone *NEW*

Vibrant and colourful, this zone appeals to the young and young-at-heart, bringing visitors into fantasy worlds.

Live. Laugh. Love Zone *NEW*

This zone encourages bonding with your loved ones and family and allows you to express your love for each other through art!

That being said, I also felt there was room for improvement, particularly in terms of staff involvement.  I felt that we were waved into the museum at the entrance with the assumption that everyone would know what to do.  When we visited trick art museums in Tokyo and Johor Bahru, all visitors were given a introduction on how trick art works and how to frame their shots and how to exaggerate their acting etc.  This was absent at Alive Museum Singapore.

There were points in Alive Museum Singapore where we came across an exhibit and were like, “Hmmm, what are we supposed to do with this?” But there was no staff around to explain to us.

We even got lost and didn’t know where the doorway to the next section was at one point.  I am not sure if it was deliberate, like they were trying to make ‘escape room’ part of the whole immersive art concept by getting us stuck.

And I also felt that the demonstration photos that they displayed next to the exhibits were not very inspiring.  I am not a very creative person, and when I visit Trick Art Museums, I always rely on demo photos for inspirations – they are usually quite hilarious.  In general, the demo photos at Alive Museum Singapore were… to put it bluntly, boring.

On the whole, the kids enjoyed the visit to Alive Museum Singapore a lot, just like how they enjoyed visiting any trick art museum we have brought them to so far.  There was a wide range of exhibits, much more than some other trick art museums I have been to.  And for visitors from overseas, it provided some great uniquely-Singapore photo opportunities.
