Harry Potter Philatelic Stamp Exhibition @ Singapore Philatelic Museum - Collecting Magic From Stamps to Wand - Bumble Bee Mum

Earlier this year, we visited Singapore Philatelic Museum and were impressed by their Peanuts Gang and More Than Monkeys exhibits.  As the year came to an end, the museum continued to impress us with their latest exhibit: Collecting Magic – From Stamps to Wands, which opens to public today!

As the name suggest, this is a Harry Potter themed exhibition.  And like many previous exhibits at Singapore Philatelic Museum, you can expect not just a lot of Harry Potter stamps on display, but also other Harry Potter related collectibles!

Making our way up to the exhibition room on level 2, the stairway had been transformed to a scene from Hogwarts, where moving portraits wave to you as you walk past them.

Once we entered the exhibition room, we couldn’t help feeling impressed by the effort put in to decorate the room to look like Harry Potter’s world.

Life-size Hogwarts uniform and model of Dobby were just some of the items we found on display in the exhibition room.

We arrived first at Privet Drive – the home where Harry Potter first received his letter from Hogwarts.

We checked out the stamp collection here, which included the first-ever Harry Potter stamp series which came from (surprise surprise) Taiwan!

But considering J.K. Rowling came from UK, we also found the Harry Potter stamp collection from United Kingdom next to it.  This particular series was the only Harry Potter stamp series to feature the book covers.

There were Harry Potter stamps from different parts of the world at the exhibit.  Of course, since we were in Singapore, there was a collection released by Singapore Post on display as well.

But my favourite at the end of the day was still the UK set.  Maybe because I preferred reading the Harry Potter books to watching the movies?

Besides stamps, what else would you expect at a philatelic museum? Postcards of course!

With the help of postcrossing,  Singapore Philatelic Museum managed to get Harry Potter fans from around the world to send in their Harry Potter postcards for this exhibit!

Other than stamps and postcards, there were also other Harry Potter collectibles on display, like a snitch, displayed on a shelf together with other Quidditch related collectibles.

There was even a Diagon Alley made with Lego bricks – assembled by a Harry Potter cum Lego fan, Jo Chua.  Some of the buildings were from the Diagon Alley Lego set, but most of them were created by Jo!

And the most fascinating part of the exhibit was the interactive wand section, where you could wave a wand around to conjure some spells!

And next to it, check out the set of magical stamps where the words would disappear to reveal a picture when exposed to heat.

Before you leave, don’t forget to grab some photographs of yourself at Platform 9 3/4, inside a carriage of Hogwarts Express or flying over Hogwarts on a broomstick!

Just to emphasize how amazing this exhibit was, here’s a video walk-through by the amazing Mabel from Amazingly Still.  (Bwahaha.. yes, I used the word ‘amazing’ 3 times on purpose.)

As a Harry Potter fan, I cannot recommend this exhibit enough.  It’s the closest to Harry Potter World I have ever gotten within Singapore.  (Outside Singapore, I have been to the crazy awesome Harry Potter World at Universal Studios Japan, but that’s another story altogether.)   Collecting Magic – From Stamps to Wand would run from today till 25 June 2017 at Singapore Philatelic Museum.  Admission is free for Singaporeans and Permanent Residents!
