26/11: Do leave Otaru early (say by 2pm) to get to Niseko in bright daylight. Niseko is extremely difficult to drive in after dark because of the heavy snowfall.

28-29/11: Are you planning to visit Lake Toya and Noboribetsu in one day? I wouldn’t advice it in winter as daylight hours are too short. I suggest you skip Noboribetsu and only go to Lake Toya. If you want to go to Noboribetsu, you can drop by for a while on the way back from Hakodate to Sapporo.

My friend rented from Car Rental Hokkaido before. They are pretty good, the only hassle was having to call them when reaching CTS as they didn’t have to a counter at the airport. But if you’re renting from Sapporo office that it shouldn’t affect you. My friend rented from the CTS office and the staff spoke Mandarin. (I suspect he was Taiwanese.) So he was able to explain everything to my friend (who’s Chinese) very well.

    Dear BBM,

I have arranged my itinerary for 4 adults and would like to seek for your advice if this is feasible?
Day 1: Reach CTS @1000 and collect car from World Net, hanging around Sapporo
    Day 2: Sapporo
Day 3: Sapporo-Otaru-Niseko (I can do a day trip to Otaru on Day 8 otherwise)
    Day 4: Niseko
Day 5: Niseko- Hakodate (drop by Lake Toya)
    Day 6: Hakodate
Day 7: Hakodate- Sapporo (drop by Noboribetsu)
Day 8: Sapporo/ Day trip to Otaru
Day 9: Return car to World Net office in Sapporo city
Day 10: Flight back to sg

    I am getting HEP 8700yen for 9 days 🙂

Hey bumblebee mum! Im looking forward to you updating on november attractions to visit, will be travelling from 20-27th november, heard that there will not be nice sceneries to be seen, current plan is as above otaru, death valley, lake toya and hakodate, will like to recieve advise on how to not get too disappointed when we reached there. Thank you!

    • Queen Bee says:

Yeah, November is not really the best time to visit Hokkaido for scenery per say. But you can take advantage of the lower accommodation prices since it’s lull period. Stay at ryokans with half-board in onsen towns such as Noboribetsu and Lake Toya – it’s a good time to just chill and soak up the onsen and enjoy the food!

Cities like Otaru and Hakodate are nice – regardless of season. Same for Sapporo. I think the time you have would be just nice for Sapporo, Otaru, Lake Toya, Noboribetsu and Hakodate.

    Dear Bumblebee Mum,

Thank you for your very informative and helpful website! Have been pouring over the pages to know how to get around Hokkaido. We are heading there for the first time from 27 Nov – 04 Dec with 2 adults and 3 kids. Following your recommendations on Sapporo, Otaru, Noboribetsu and skipping Hakodate due to lack of time. Just wondering whether its worth during this period to head to Niseko, say on the last 2 days of November. Will it be boring if snow sports are not ready ? Are there anything else to do there ? Thanks ! – Ann
